About the Board Game
The Detroit Women: Power, Grit & Grace board game is an interactive civic learning experience that celebrates the women who shaped Detroit’s history and continue to influence its future.
Created by CitizenDetroit, the game introduces players to a diverse group of Detroit women leaders — from entrepreneurs and artists to organizers, journalists, educators, and public officials. Each card highlights a real figure whose work helped move the city forward through courage, creativity, and commitment to community.
Rather than simply memorizing facts, players engage with the many ways women exercise civic influence in Detroit. The game explores different “civic tools” — such as storytelling, organizing, leadership, entrepreneurship, and advocacy — showing how change happens through many different paths.
Power, Grit & Grace encourages conversation about leadership, representation, and the role each of us can play in shaping our communities.
At its heart, the game is about recognition and inspiration. By learning about the women who helped build Detroit, players are invited to imagine how they might contribute to the city’s future.
